Progress Monitoring During Menu - *NEW* Windowpane Sets

Progress monitoring embeds the use of formative assessment to track student progress. We know that progress monitoring is a critical component of the cycle of instruction and intervention. Progress monitoring that promotes student growth pays attention to impact. It helps ensure that the instruction we are providing connects the students’ current understanding and the skills students’ require additional intervention on. Educators must design instructional opportunities from real student evidence to best support all of their students. This type of formative assessment is proactive, asset based and can ensure that educators are able to use the data they collect to make responsive decisions that support more students’ growth.

In this workshop, we will discuss the importance of progress monitoring students' assets and using that information to intentionally and proactively design instruction. We will use a sample of ALO's newly created Windowpanes for Grades K- 5 that reflect an intentional, systematic connection to the HLC Progressions for each grade level. They provide consistent spaced practice to support formative assessment and progress monitoring.

Through this workshop, participants will learn the ALN approach to progress monitoring - asking, "What are my students’ strengths? What do they need next? What are the best instructional practices that will support my students in growing their understanding? What models and strategies am I prioritizing? What evidence of understanding do I see now? What should I do next?" This is true progress monitoring - when our students’ assets and targeted goals are at the center of our instructional decision making.
