Introduction to Fraction Foundations

In this workshop for K-5 educators, we introduce our Fraction Foundations Progressions. These foundational fraction concepts are built throughout a student’s elementary school experience and span multiple grade levels. Prior to operating with fractions, students should have the opportunity to build conceptual understanding around equipartitioning, equivalence, order and magnitude, counting, and subitizing fractions. As students begin operating with fractions, they will continue to deepen their understanding of fraction foundations. The Fraction Foundations Progressions are a companion to the High Leverage Concepts Progressions. We will spend the hour exploring how the concepts in these fraction foundations progressions have instructional implications across the elementary grade levels.

During the session, we will be referencing the Fraction Foundations Progressions. To access the Fractions Foundations Progressions, our All Learners Online Unlimited members can find them in their accounts. We also sell the Fraction Foundations Progressions as part of our Fraction Foundations Toolkit (digital download) for $15.

Intended Audience: K-5 math educators, coaches, and leaders
