VT AOE: Algebra for All Learners 6 Hour Workshop
Can all students grasp algebra? A significant body of evidence suggests they can. To support all students in learning algebra, it is fundamental for teachers to have a thorough understanding of the various ways students acquire, interpret and process abstract concepts such as functions and equations. Setting up a classroom environment that provides a sense of belonging, engages students in productive struggle and cultivates problem solving skills is critical to student success.
In Algebra for All Part 1, we will begin with discussing setting up classroom culture and routines to build agency belonging. We will focus on the learning progression of how algebraic reasoning is introduced in the early grades and how to bring students from concrete modeling into the world of abstract. Participants will examine linear relationships and all their representations and focus on how to get students to draw connections between those. We will examine All Learners Network High Leverage Concepts for Algebra and discuss their best use in your classroom.
The VT Agency of Education is sponsoring this event making it free for participants. You will receive a Zoom link the day before the event. Please contact ashleymarlow@alllearnersnetwork.com with any questions.
