Launch Workshop Series | Session 1 of 3 | Before Launch Routine

This professional development offering is supported by the Vermont Agency of Education. We are thankful for their support.

Launch (often a Number Talk or short problem) is the first component of the All Learners Network lesson approach.

These workshops were created in response to a large number of requests from participants about practices that support the early part of the lesson. This includes Number Talks, various math circle activities, and the use of curriculum to the development of strong number sense.

The purpose of this workshop is to inspire participants to reimagine how they use the first five to fifteen minutes of their math block for purposeful, discussion-rich number sense routines in their classroom. Launch is the vehicle for powerful instructional routines which are amplified through consistent exposure over time. Through intentional problem selection teachers encourage students to own the conversation and their learning.

Supported by research, number sense routines:

*Build flexibility with number

*Deepen understanding of operations

*Promote discourse

*Address gaps in prior learning as well as foreshadow upcoming learning

You will be emailed a Zoom link to join the meeting the day before the workshop.
