Tools for educators, inclusion for students, equity for communities.
Fri, Sep 1, 2023, 9:00 AM EDT – Fri, Mar 29, 2024, 2:30 PM EDT
All Learners Network Learning Center, Suite 249 Chace Mill, Burlington, VT
Our Chief Learning Officer Sandi Stanhope is bringing back a *NEW* cohort of teacher leaders interested in collaborating with All Learners Network for the 2023-2024 school year. The goal of the meeting is to work together on problems of practice, build pedagogical content knowledge through looking at student work and math tasks, and share and develop resources to use in your math classrooms. The first cohort meeting will provide the opportunity to collectively build a structure for the rest of the meetings that will be meaningful and goal oriented.
Thu, Oct 12, 2023, 8:30 AM EDT – Tue, Dec 19, 2023, 7:30 PM EST
All Learners Network Learning Center, Suite 249 Chace Mill, Burlington, VT
This is a two credit course. Using the framework provided by All Learners Network (ALN), this course will explore the High Leverage Concepts (HLC) from grades 5 through 8. This course will also use the latest research about how the brain learns to leverage routines that should be incorporated in Middle Level classes to decrease math anxiety and increase belonging in the math classroom. The All Learners Network uses five key components to help math leaders and, ultimately, teachers, support all students to be successful in mathematics: High Leverage Concepts, All Learners Lesson Structure, training for instructional leaders to facilitate student growth, a rapid cycle of inquiry, and formative assessment forming instruction. This course will teach educators to use these effective strategies to help all children learn math.

In a Multi-Layer System of Support, some students benefit from an additional layer of instruction to support their understanding of grade level content while also building understanding of priority concepts from previous grade levels. This workshop is aimed at this need with a specific focus on math content in grades 3-5.

We all want children to have easy access to multiplication facts for both multiplication and division. However, we often sacrifice understanding for automaticity. In this workshop, we will explore the ways that using models for conceptual understanding, can improve fact fluency. We will also explore recall and memory and the importance of knowing and using facts. Participants will leave with strategies they can apply immediately.

It is important to have deep content knowledge at your own grade level to ensure your instruction is effective for all learners. This means as a teacher, not just knowing how to do the math but understanding also how students will progress, develop and refine their thinking and problem solving skills within the most important concepts.

Using the lens of the All Learners Network High Leverage Concepts, this course will explore specialized instruction and interventions in Math focused on supporting struggling learners in the K-5th grade classrooms. This workshop is an introduction to the Specialized Math Instruction content offered through All Learners Network. We will explore formative assessment, the use of data/student work to inform decisions and progress monitoring as well as targeted interviews to help develop a robust understanding of our students as math learners. Throughout this course we will engage in math, use models and consider development of tasks for students.

Using the lens of the All Learners Network High Leverage Concepts, this course will explore specialized instruction and interventions in Math focused on supporting struggling learners in the K-5th grade classrooms. Part 2 focuses on vertical alignment of Models and Strategies that support students’ development of important mathematics. This workshop also supports participants’ introduction and use of a Balanced Math Block to invite all learners’ exploration of effective models and strategies. We will analyze student work to inform instructional decisions and progress monitoring to help develop a robust understanding of our students as math learners. Throughout this course we will engage in math, use models and consider development of tasks for students.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) posits flexible pathways with firm goals. As math educators, we need to consider the universal accommodations and tools we are providing for students to learn mathematics and demonstrate their understanding. We also need to consider the high priority math concept a student needs from previous grades to accurately scaffold new learning so that ALL students can experience affirming math learning at their grade level. In this 6-hour workshop, participants will focus on the High Leverage Concepts (HLCs), as well as instructional strategies/routines that open the gate to math learning for students who have historically felt excluded from grade level content.

We all want children to have easy access to additive facts to 20 (or even 100!). However, we often sacrifice understanding for automaticity. In this workshop, we will explore models of recall and memory, the importance of knowing and using additive facts, and techniques for improving recall and fluency. Participants will leave with strategies they can apply immediately.

Launch (often a Number Talk or short problem) is the first component of the All Learners Network lesson approach. The purpose of this workshop is to inspire participants to reimagine how they use the first five to fifteen minutes of their math block for purposeful, discussion-rich number sense routines in their classroom. Launch is the vehicle for powerful instructional routines which are amplified through consistent exposure over time. Through intentional problem selection teachers encourage students to own the conversation and their learning.
